Juan Ruvalcaba Retires from STAY GREEN INC After 22 Years of Service

STAY GREEN INC (SGI), a Santa Clarita landscape contracting firm, recently honored a long-time employee, Juan Ruvalcaba, for his 22 years of exceptional service to the company.  Juan, who retired early because of medical reasons, was awarded a special plaque and a bonus at a surprise party held in his honor.

Speaking through an interpreter, Juan noted, “I really appreciate the many opportunities for advancement President Rich Angelo and the rest of SGI’s managers made available to me during my time at Stay Green.  I worked my way up from helper to route foreman, then to irrigation specialist and eventually to irrigation team leader.  I also appreciate how considerate they have been, even to the point of adjusting my work schedule, as my medical condition worsened.”  Ruvalcaba has suffered from diabetes and related medical problems for several years.

“Juan has been an outstanding employee and excellent team leader,” said Isaias Leon, his immediate supervisor.  “Over the years we have become good friends, and I will miss working beside him at job sites.”  Juan worked mostly in Santa Clarita Valley, primarily installing irrigation systems for homeowner associations and commercial projects.

Juan Ruvalcaba began working at SGI on September 30, 1985.  Two years later he contracted diabetes, yet continued to perform his duties flawlessly up until his recent retirement.  In his 22 years at Stay Green, Juan was never late for work.  He is also proud that most of what he knows about landscaping and irrigation has been self-taught.

“Learning how to install and operate the new smart irrigation controllers was difficult because all the instructions were in English and I only speak Spanish,” lamented Juan.  “It took a while, but I finally figured them out,” he said proudly.

“I really enjoyed working at Stay Green,” Juan said sincerely, “because it is a highly professional company that offers good quality and is always striving to please the client.  Also, because they treat their employees like family – respecting everyone and receiving respect in return.”

“Not having Juan as part of our field staff will really take some getting used to,” said SGI President Rich Angelo.  He is one of the most dependable, hard working, gentle souls you will ever meet.  He will be truly missed.”

Although retiring from SGI, Juan will maintain a couple of small residential properties a few hours a week “just to keep active.”  All his friends at Stay Green wish him well.
