PCBT Nomination January 25, 2010

In selecting which companies to feature, the Business Times looks at several criteria: How long the company has been in business; whether it has reached any milestones or overcome adversity; community involvement; and outside validation of accomplishments such as awards from local chambers of commerce etc.

This year Stay Green Inc. is celebrating its 40th anniversary as the natural choice for professional landscape management services.

Operating from the garage of his home, Rich Angelo launched Stay Green Inc. in 1970 with one truck, a handful of residential customers, and a vision for providing the best landscape services anywhere.

Today, that same passion for quality and service infuses the work of Stay Green's more than 200 employees who provide Landscape Maintenance, Plant Health Care, and Tree Care services. The company operates four branches that service Southern California, including one in Ventura.

Stay Green Inc. is recognized as a leading provider of high-quality landscape services, having achieved a 95 percent customer retention rate, along with receiving the industry's most prestigious awards. Just recently, the California Landscape Contractors Association gave Stay Green its prestigious John

Redmond Memorial Award for its work at Westfield Valencia Town Center. The award honors the best landscaping entry in the CLCA's annual Trophy Awards. As well, Stay Green was a 2008 finalist in the San Fernando Valley Business Journal's "Best Places to Work" contest. Readers of The Signal newspaper selected Stay Green as the "Best Landscaping Company" in the paper's 2009 "Best of the Santa Clarita Valley Awards."

Rich was inducted into the Green Industry Hall of Fame Class of 2008. He served as president of the California Landscape Contractors Association and he sits on the Board of Trustees at Cal Poly Pomona.

A new generation is helping to lead the way forward at the family-run company. Rich's son Chris was named CEO in 2009. As a community leader, Chris devotes considerable time and energy to local charitable organizations. He serves on the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and is organizing the chamber's annual golf tournament this year. He was named the "2009 Rising Star" in the San Fernando Valley Business Journal's Santa Clarita Valley Business Leadership Awards.

Rich remains actively involved with the company's day-to-day operations. He can usually be found at a job site, or one of the branches, talking with crew members and instilling in them an appreciation for quality, the importance of service, and the pride that comes from doing a job the Stay Green way.
